Project Reveal: Race St.
Welcome to Race St, our newly completed interior remodel located in Denver, CO. This family home was a labor of love and a perfect example of how attention to small details builds toward something larger and more beautiful. Built in 1911, we chose to honor the legacy of this listed historical home by preserving the majority of the original details. Weaving in new elements that echoed the originals was a rewarding challenge, and we're incredibly proud of how it all came together!
Kitchen & Pantry
Working closely with the clients to understand their family's needs and how their day-to-day flow functions, we reworked a majority of the floor plan on the main level of their home. Shifting and opening up the kitchen to the beautiful back windows, ornamented with leaded glass, allowed natural light to spill into and through the previously closed-off room. Adding a pantry that flows through to the home office and side entrance helped the space function more naturally.
With the home's original windows, niches, and exquisite millwork intact, we designed the kitchen to feel seamlessly integrated into its historic architecture. While the result appears effortless, achieving that level of cohesion required extensive attention to detail, from replicating the existing arches and matching wood stains to ensuring every new element felt as though it had always belonged.
To further preserve the home's character, we repurposed the original sconces to flank the range hood, adding a layer of authenticity and charm. Natural materials were selected throughout, including a Colorado Statuario marble that not only complemented the design but also paid homage to the home's local setting.
Primary Bathroom
The primary bathroom was previously lacking in both function and beauty, with a layout that felt inefficient and finishes that had long outlived their appeal. Our goal was to transform it into a space that felt both highly functional and timelessly elegant.
Thoughtfully reconfigured to maximize usability and flow, the new design features marble flooring, a custom-designed vanity tailored to the clients' needs, and a spacious steam shower hosting a freestanding soaking tub. Layered with classic materials, refined detailing, and a restrained palette, the space exudes a sense of understated luxury. The result is a primary bathroom that feels serene, sophisticated, and effortlessly timeless, bringing everyday comfort together with the experience of a high-end spa.
Kids Bathroom
When designing the kids' bathroom, we wanted it to feel as thoughtfully considered and timeless as every other space in the home, while incorporating a touch of whimsy and personality to reflect its young users. Rather than creating a space the children would quickly outgrow, we focused on classic materials and enduring design details, layering in playful elements through color, pattern, and unexpected moments such as a marble arched entry into the shower.
Kitchenette
Tucked within what was once an underutilized basement, we transformed the space into a fully functional extension of the home, complete with a guest bedroom, bathroom, laundry room, mudroom, and the beautifully appointed kitchenette shown here. Thoughtfully designed to support both everyday living and entertaining, the lower level now offers a welcoming retreat for overnight guests while providing the family with additional space to gather, unwind, and connect.
