January Journal: Design Forecast

Welcome to our January Journal! This month, we would like to introduce our Design Forecast for 2024. As we ring in the new year, we’ve looked back on last year’s trends and have predicted what will continue to lead and define the interior design industry. We are always in favor of timeless looks and are careful to find trends that we feel will be relevant not only now, but for years to come. Let’s get into it!

First off in our forecast, we anticipate seeing more lived-in and layered homes. We’re finding clients desire a less perfected and more personalized style, one that represents them and their families. While there is still an art to creating and curating a lived-in style that is not overwhelming or busy, clients want to feel as though they can live in their homes, and not just have them for show.

Second, we expect to see the continued use of moody, rich, and saturated tones. Primarily this is coming through in paint, wallpaper, cabinetry, and upholstered furniture pieces. We love the use of dark paint in powder bathrooms, dining rooms, and smaller sitting rooms. This creates an intimate feel and provides tonal variation throughout the home. The colors we are seeing pop up everywhere are dark reds and maroons, muted greens, and browns. Say goodbye to stark all-white homes, this trend is here to stay!

A focus on decorative window treatments is a trend we predicted in last year’s forecast and guess what? She’s back and not going anywhere, anytime soon. Window treatments are a great way to add more personalization and a custom touch to any room. Not only are they functional, but they add softness to a room and create visual height. We are seeing soft window treatments in all rooms from the kitchen to the bedroom, and we are here for it.

Another design trend that is not new, but we continue to see on the rise, is the use of heirloom, antique, and vintage pieces. No longer are clients wanting whatever they can get their hands on fast, but rather they are wanting to find those one-of-a-kind pieces that will last a lifetime. From furniture to lighting and décor, investing in what you cherish will allow you to create a highly personalized home that is meaningful and timeless.

Finally, we are seeing more and more intricate details in millwork and stonework. This goes back to creating personalized spaces that are unique and timeless. When it comes to stonework, we anticipate seeing more traditional countertop edge details and transitions in kitchens and bathrooms. As for millwork, unique cabinet details in kitchens, pantries, bathrooms, and even laundry rooms are becoming more predominant. Spoiler alert, high-quality craftsmanship will never go out of style.
