October Journal: Nursery Notes
Welcome to our October Journal! Earlier this year, we shared the exciting news that we’re expecting a baby girl this December. This month, we’re giving you a little update on the nursery design and linking a few favorite pieces we’ve gathered so far. The room is still a work in progress, but we can’t wait to reveal the finished space later this season.
Until then, here’s a sneak peek!
Let’s start with the room’s finishes. While we kept things fairly simple overall, adding character was still a priority. Last year, we installed a jute-like wall-to-wall carpet that brings in so much warmth and texture. For the walls, we painted all the trim, windows, and doors in Benjamin Moore Amulet to add a soft, classic touch. As for wallpaper, we installed Schumacher’s Edwin Stripe Narrow in Buttercup — a timeless pattern in a gentle hue that will grow with the space and give us room to play with art and accessories.
Now onto the furniture. We split up what we wanted to source vintage and what we preferred to buy new. For new pieces, we chose the Liberty Spindle Crib in Natural Walnut from Namesake — a beautifully crafted piece that blends traditional design with modern function. Since the nursery is on the smaller side, we opted for a glider instead of a rocker and went with the Esmé Glider Chair from Sixpenny. We loved its compact silhouette, removable slipcover, and the fact that our living room chairs (also from Sixpenny) have held up so well over the past year.
True to our style, many of the pieces we’ve sourced for the nursery so far are vintage and one-of-a-kind. We’ve found the dresser/changing table, bookcase, mirror, area rug, and quilts through a mix of local antique shops, Facebook Marketplace, and Etsy — a fun (and sometimes lucky) process that’s made the space feel personal and layered.
For soft goods, we had a custom roman shade and lumbar pillow made in Sanderson’s Byron fabric in Cherry Biscuit. This modern madras check brings a playful contrast to the floral pattern in the rug, while staying within the same warm color palette.
For overhead lighting, we chose the Thurman Schoolhouse flush mount from Rejuvenation in unlacquered brass, knowing it will naturally patina over time and add a sense of age and warmth to the room.
We’ve been intentionally taking our time collecting items that feel meaningful and that we hope will grow with our daughter. Still on our list: a side table, table lamp, and a few more pieces of artwork and décor to round things out.
