June Journal: Tiny Sanctuary
Welcome to our June Journal! This month, our journal entry comes with a “tiny” announcement…our family is growing! We will be welcoming a baby girl as our newest team member this December, and we couldn’t be more excited. Naturally, our brain has been swirling with nursery trends, so we thought we would share what has been inspiring us and the design of our tiny sanctuary, aka, the nursery.
Baby, let the games begin!
Our number one rule for a nursery is that it must be timeless. A timeless nursery creates an environment that grows with the baby, offering comfort and familiarity through each stage of development. By choosing classic designs and versatile decor, the space remains relevant and soothing, avoiding frequent overhauls. This approach not only saves resources (aka money) but also provides a stable atmosphere where the child can feel secure and inspired as they grow.
A personal preference of ours is that the nursery is relatively gender neutral. This isn’t a strict rule, and we’ll certainly leave room for more gender specific décor, but a gender-neutral nursery allows the child to explore their identity freely. It creates a versatile and welcoming space that can easily adapt as the child grows and develops their unique personality. As a child ages, they’ll want to add their own touch and character to create a space that feels like their own, and keeping a neutral space allows for them to do just that.
To clarify, when we use the term neutral, we’re not referring to neutral colors or an all-beige room. Which brings us to our next item on the list: a nursery should be playful while remaining intentional and calm. A nursery is the perfect place to introduce a little whimsy, pattern play, and color but we prefer to do so in a sophisticated manner that ages with the child. A vibrant and fun nursery sparks creativity while color, pattern, and texture encourage exploration and stimulate early learning.
